Grief as Renowned South African DJ Gunned Down in Johannesburg.

A renowned South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the metropolis of Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country grappling with entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the downtown area on Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities reported the forty-year-old presenter was confronted by three suspects, with one began shooting at him before fleeing on foot.

The motive behind the shooting has not been established and no arrests are in custody, police said.

How It Happened

Law enforcement indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a location close to the city center landmark.

He had spent several hours at the building supervising the setup of security systems, which had been reportedly taken over by unidentified individuals, it was reported.

"The report indicates the victim was approached by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before escaping on foot," an official report stated.

CCTV footage showed a suspect with dreadlocks and dressed in what appeared to be a guard's attire shooting on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ sought to escape after he was shot but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.

Officials noted that Stock had an weapon on his person and nothing was taken during the incident.

Crucial forensic evidence, like cartridges, were found at the scene.

Authorities have requested members of the public who may have witnessed the attack to come forward.

"Our information indicates they traveled on foot after the shooting, and police have been attempting to locate them to determine their destination," remarked an authority figure.

His sister, Nicole Stock, expressed the family was struggling to process his death.

"I am in shock. I cannot express the pain," she said.
"We know he was a voice for many people. He was a fearless commentator about topics not many people were ready to tackle. This is a devastating blow."

She urged the citizens to refrain from sharing disturbing footage from the incident, noting this was an extremely painful time, above all for Stock's three sons.

A cabinet official remarked he was angry and saddened by Stock's murder.

"He spoke his truth without fear or favour. He even spoke up against me and my policies as a minister. He was a true embodiment of who we must aspire to be," the minister added.

A party figurehead stated the "audacious attack of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a tragedy for all South Africans".

A broadcasting director noted that "DJ Warras was more than just a face of a reality series. He was a gifted communicator, a true devotee of sound and a generous spirit who brought happiness and vitality to every performance. His dedication to creativity left an indefinable mark."

In a statement, the channel he worked for said Stock was known for his presence, kindness and intelligent commentary, adding that his memory "will live on".
