American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn states she will be "perfectly prepared" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, on the back of claiming a place on the rostrum for the fourth instance in five World Cup events. The veteran athlete, who recently made history by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her 142nd career World Cup podium finish. Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere Racing in the French Alps resort for the first time in eight years, Vonn crossed the line in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was just over a third of a second behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place. "I was slightly lacking enough direction on the first jump," Vonn remarked. "From that point on, I performed strongly. I'm satisfied with my run today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious." This result was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also finished third in the downhill race on Saturday. A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement Vonn ended her career in early 2019 because of persistent injuries. However, she staged a competitive comeback in late 2024 following a major knee surgery. With just over six weeks remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's form are timely. She has one gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to represent the United States at the 2026 Games. "At the Olympics, I will be in a good place," the athlete confirmed. Chasing More Titles Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four World Cup titles she has won over a professional journey spanning two decades. She currently holds a substantial lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table. This season's World Cup campaign includes a nine more events scheduled before the season finals in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
