Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer responsible for some of the most iconic looks worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and performative fashion, such as the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

Price's death comes less than a month after he unveiled his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "dress" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing menswear at Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in designing body-hugging looks made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he commenced designing pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as several ensembles for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

After a career spanning more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a true visionary whose influence on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
