Two Victims Identified in the Providence Campus Shooting as Law Enforcement Press On With Hunt for Killer.

The pair of scholars who died in the weekend's mass shooting at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their shooter carried on following the freeing by authorities in Rhode Island of the only individual questioned in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was described as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, per the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which paid tribute to her at a service on Sunday.

Her role included the vice-presidency of Brown’s chapter of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also posted words of sorrow publicly, stating: “Words cannot express. Remembering her kin and peers, especially her parents.”

The Second Victim

The second fatality was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his first year of studies at the Ivy League university, according to relatives.

Umurzokov’s identity was officially acknowledged by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He had big dreams of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and aiding others,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a online post.

Details of the Attack

Nine other people were hurt in the violent event in the engineering building of Brown’s university in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Law enforcement reported by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-man taken into custody in a police operation at a lodging about approximately 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was being released.

“A perpetrator remains free,” said the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you need to change course and head another way, and that is the current situation over the last 24 hours or so.”

Community Anxiety

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, admitted: “This will probably generate fresh anxiety for our public”.

The gunman began shooting inside a room in the engineering building on over the weekend, firing more than 40 rounds from a handgun, a law enforcement official told the Associated Press.

Officers that searched the lodging seized two handguns and two loaded 30-round magazines when the person of interest was taken into custody, according to reports.

Condition of the Injured

Regarding the nine injured, a single scholar was discharged from care, mentioned the university president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in critical but stable condition, and one was in critical condition, police said on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a independent school in Durham, North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

Cook was honored at a religious service in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only in her youth... but at Brown University she was a shining example in that specific location as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the club. “Ella was recognized for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she aided her club and peers,” he said.

Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the student's death in a statement. “We extend our sincere condolences to Mr Umurzokov’s family, loved ones, and schoolmates and grieve for of his potential.”
